‘Healthy Planet, Healthy People’ is a NEW educational game developed with the Planetary Health for Nursing & Midwifery Research and Education Collaborative in Australia to raise awareness of the impact of climate change on health and the delivery of sustainable healthcare services.

The ‘Healthy Planet, Healthy People’ educational board game is premised on the understanding that there is no health without planetary health. It provides an interactive and enjoyable way for clinicians and students to explore the impact of climate change, pollution, deforestation, and biodiversity loss, on both the environment and human health.

The game takes a hopeful and solutions-focused approach that empowers players to generate new ideas for how they can individually and collectively create a healthier, more equitable world for current and future generations.

The ‘Healthy Planet, Healthy People’ educational board game helps players to explore:

  • How the environment and human health are being impacted by changing temperatures, deforestation, pollution and biodiversity loss.
  • Population groups that are most impacted by climate change and pollution
  • Strategies that healthcare professionals can use to help prevent global warming and to adapt to the challenges of the Anthropocene

The game is intended for up to 12 players and lasts approximately 45 minutes. Basic knowledge of planetary health is helpful but not essential as the game is designed to generate new learning.

Who invented the game?

The game was designed by members of the Planetary Health for Nursing & Midwifery Research and Education Collaborative. The content and approach used in the game were informed by a body of research on planetary health education undertaken by members of the Collaborative in partnership with Focus Games Ltd.

The game’s development was funded by the University of Technology Sydney and Curtin University.

The game is part of a research project which will be conducted across 6 Australian universities.
